Block week with HLSU students in Ethiopia
Monika Ristova, junior project manager at HHM Bern and student at HSLU, left her comfort zone. She traveled to Ethiopia for two intensive weeks. As part of a block-week module, she planned and installed a solar power system together with other students. The trip to Africa was more than just a casual getaway. It was an immersion into another world, where the tension between immense challenges and simultaneous potential is tangible.

“There is nothing good except doing it.” Yes.
Engineers are part of the solution. New climate protection commitments require the achievement of concrete CO2 targets, which are also subject to review. If we politically recognize the finite nature of resources and planetary boundaries, then new approaches are essential. Our expertise as engineers is in demand, even if certain framework conditions sometimes stand in the way of achieving these goals.

Block week with HLSU students in Ethiopia
Under the motto “Borders are not the end of our prosperity, but rather a guarantee of it,” we’ll take a slightly different look at the topic of sustainability. Together, we’ll explore how borders on a finite planet serve not as obstacles, but as fields of action for committed clients and creative engineers and their solutions.

SDG Lunch as part of Engineers’ Day 2024
At the “SDG Lunch” as part of Engineers’ Day 2024, the HHM Group will demonstrate the important levers we can use as planners within the SDG goals. At the same time, we are also understanding our responsibility more comprehensively.
“The moral identity of companies is (ideally) reflected in their corporate culture and the behavior of their employees,” is how someone put it. Because as a company, we have relevance and impact with what we do, or even with what we fail to do. Our employees are actors in a collective called HHM. And it’s not the company that can bear responsibility; no, it’s the employees and planners themselves.
Sustainability therefore doesn’t just shine through in bold letters about CO2 savings or abstract figures about ecological successes; this is just as important to us. Our stories are also nourished by the social dimension, where we pursue impact. And that’s a good thing, because this action shows immediate results; we can make a difference.
With the onset of the pandemic in 2020, discussions about establishing a foundation arose at HHM. It was unforeseen that two years later, the company would also be confronted with a war in Europe with colleagues in Ukraine involved. The “HHM Common Good Initiative” was subsequently launched in 2022. Here are the initiatives with which we at the HHM Group are pursuing expanded SDG goals beyond engineering on a smaller scale: Common Good Initiatives

Apply for funding now.
With LEDforFOOT, the Swiss Football Association is setting an example in the use of environmentally friendly resources. There is considerable public interest in well-lit sports fields. Municipalities and sports clubs can submit funding applications until March 2026 or until the budget is exhausted. To do so, they need clarity about their investment needs.
